My time at the Melting Pot in Knoxville has been one of the most significant experiences I have ever had. Not only have I been able to sharpen my organization and communication skills, but I have had the opportunity to step into a leadership roll as Manager of Hospitality.
When I first began as a host, the restaurant had just recently changed management and was still trying to get organized. I decided early on that it was necessary for me to step up and create structure in my position. I drafted a training schedule with each day of training planned out in order to maximize training efforts and an exam that each trainee should be required to pass in order to officially begin their position. I also compiled all necessary host information, such as where supplies are located, daily tasks, etc. into a binder for reference and training. Because of these efforts, we are now more organized and effective than ever in the host position.
Once I finished organizing the hosts, I decided I could do more for the Melting Pot in general. I believe in order to do my job to the best of my ability, I need to fully understand the aspects of the rest of my teams jobs in the restaurant. Therefore, I trained for multiple positions, including Server, Servers Assistant, and Bar back. Because I am knowledgeable and capable of working multiple positions, I am able to host better, help my coworkers, and the restaurant is able to schedule less support staff on days I work.
